Famciclovir, also known as Famvir, is a drug intended for the treatment of herpes, including oral herpes, or cold sores. It can also be used to treat related diseases such as shingles and chicken pox.

As a treatment for herpes, Famciclovir is generally used as suppressive therapy, which alternatively can be  called episodic therapy. Either way, it is meant to be taken at the first signs of an outbreak, such as itching, burning, or pain. It attacks the virus and so prevents a full-blown outbreak which may include bumps, sores, or blisters. Is Famciclovir an effective herpes treatment that is right for you?
